Ten Good Reasons for Joining the Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Families:

“The use of alcohol and other drugs is the primary health problem of youth.” (US Surgeon General)

“Never doubt that community anti-drug coalitions are saving the lives.” (White House Office of National Drug Control Policy)

Alcohol, marijuana and other drug use negatively affects the academic performance of our students. (2008 and 2010 Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth Survey Data for Chippewa Valley)

Youth use of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs is commonly involved in school misbehavior, sexual assault, car crashes, risky behavior, and suicide. (National Institute of Drug Abuse/NIDA)

Those who begin alcohol, marijuana and other drug use during their youth are far more likely to become addicted. (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence/NCADD)

Considerable research supports that the brain does not mature until persons are in their mid-20s and that youth use of alcohol and other drugs negatively affects brain development. (NIDA)

Community anti-drug coalitions, such as ours, have a proven “track record” of success in reducing youth use. (Drug Free Communities)

The Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Families is the only local Macomb County coalition to receive the Drug Free Communities grant, a recognition of our efforts and commitment.

The strategies and products (video and print) of our Coalition have been used by other coalitions and community agencies throughout the county and state.
